T O P I C R E V I E Wzeus_daughter2This is going to come out as more than just one post for me....because I have alot to say about this American nightmare. Other posts on this site complained about the foreign doctors that the VA employ. I personally would not care if every single one of them were foreign if they could perform their job properly. This is part of my complaint....combined with what is refered to as "paperwork" or "red tape" that is required to have proper care performed in a prompt manner. I know that a great deal of money is lost right there in the VA system. The VA health care system is a failure putting it politely... If I were allowed to label them...I would call them murderers because they are. In one year alone the VA admitted to the public and other government agencies that they were responsible for over 940 deaths....One year...just one. I feel for Vets I really do...and I know that they feel that they deserve some special treatment from the US....agreed they do. But this is not a working choice...Vets all over the US die each year because they are forced to use the VA system instead of being able to seek private care. I can honestly say I have stood in the Marion VA ER and passed out patient rights to ER patients ....because the ill were not being cared for....outraged I took a stand....and a nasty one at that. I start explaining to everyone that people who are on Welfare receive better care than what our precious war heros do...and then passed out complaint forms...I even went room to room to personally give each person or their partner a complaint form for their "experience" at the ER room that day. You know every person I gave one to...I also watched them turn them in. That was a good feeling to know that everyone felt fed up too... However the VA will not reform its self based just on patient complaints... That night as I drove my husband home over 100 miles one way....I promised him and I promised myself that I would see a change and I would fight til I died if need be so that others can receive quality care. However, small that stand was...and even if it did not do much that day....nurses and Dr.s were horrified to hear me speaking out in that waiting room. One nurse said to me, "I hope that what you are saying is not true." I became more enraged than ever... I had been a welfare medical card holder when I had my first two children...I did not go to college til they were about 3 and 4 years old.....during that time I drew welfare...and I then worked for the Dept of Public Aid in 96-97. I know that they get twice as good care as what I see in the fucking VA nasty ass hospitals. Pissed? Hell no....they almost killed my husband 3 seperate times.... I am and have been beyond that for a long time....My husband was not even 50 and really his health is very manageable....had it not been for me overseeing my husbands health care your god damn straight he would be dead right now....right now...facts are facts...and I pulled him out of the VA hospital and rushed him to a public hospital...they saved him. I believe our Vets deserve quality care....isn't that what they gave their country? Why is the government doing this the way they are? Well there are a ton of reasons none of which are going to help these Vets...politics play a hand in the federal lousy funding...which is not giving the VA the budget needed to perform correctly and lets just get it right now...they never have and never will! But what we see is the VA administrative leaders trying to hang on to their own asses and annual salaries... Just once I would like to see one just one of them stand up and say...hey...the truth is we have a lost cause going here and we need to do something about it and really fight for it....Dream on right Dana? Ya. I have been grouping Vets for the last three years that I meet at Marion IL, Danville IL, Evansville IN, and ST. Louis MO. I log names, addresses, complaints...I even give out personal data cards for my contact. I would love to find a couple of good Vets that would like to truly see reform in the VA health care system. That could help in getting a web site up. And seriously help out with in house lobbying, mailing lists, ect... There is an answer to this problem and the Vets could be cared for properly... No more driving over a hundred miles for tests at hospitals when a vet is already sick....no more waiting in dirty hospitals that could not possibly be sterile due to cockroaches. I have some good, NO... GREAT ideas that the Vets could be much happier with and the government comes out ahead too....the only losers...foreign doctors...and administrative health care big wigs who wine and dine the government officals to beg for funding....fuck those assholes...fighting for Vets rights my ass.I have been working at this like I said for three years and I can not do it by myself....nor do I wish to by myself. I have to finish law school. I need help with some of this...I will accept help from any Vet, vets spouses, or vets children. The vision I saw that night as I drove home at 2am after sitting in the ER over 7 hours (and still did not receive care because of paperwork) The vision had no group name...I thought the Vets themselves should vote and pick it...but we form under a non-profit organization. Starting that way we get money from the feds to harass them for our rights...donations would be tax write offs ect....and join all Vets together across the entire USA.....donations could be used for travel to get us to the white house...protest them...Nobody really cares about the Vets except the Vets and the folks who love a Vet! ..and damn it...you boys are our pride....our freedom. It is just one more fight...for ourselves and future Vets...and you know legally I know if we did it right...we will win. I am not saying to cut benefits of cash, or the little 1000.00 dollar life insurance policy they give Vets...(it costs 5000.00 to bury them) Not fair!!! Disabled vets can't get life insurance from another company....that is bullshit! Who is with me? If you think you could help in any little way....even if it is just to lick stamps...I will use you. At this time I have 257 names of men and women who would like to see this vision become real. I also have two attorneys who are vets that will help set us on the fight the legal fight...I hope we willing soar high enough to allow us to hire a legal staff just for the vets dealing with patient rights. Thanks for listening tonight...I will post more tomorrow... It hurts just to remember all the sick vets stories I have heard and keep on file. It started with a notebook and a pen.... I will never give up or quit...never... I believe in this cause. My email for VA issues: zeus_daughter2@msn.com[This message has been edited by zeus_daughter2 (edited 03-21-2002).][This message has been edited by zeus_daughter2 (edited 03-21-2002).]zeus_daughter2 http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20020321/hl_nm/healthcare_uninsured_1&cid=594 One in seven Americans are unable to get needed health care....please see the article...and of course again we see that it all lies in the hands of policy makers in politics.paytonWell, why am I not surprised to see our vets are not being cared for?? No one wants to be sick or disabled. In IN and KY I have seen many cases of veterans who, sick as they are, must wade through mountain after mountain of red tape to get minimal qaulity of medical care. Heaven help the vet who has no family to help, they often end up homeless, or living in transient situations, and dying, sick and alone. My own stepfather had to have heart surgery and after dealing with the VA for about a year made the decision to go to a private hospital with Doctors who were more concernedwith good patient care. It cost him a small fortune and he almost died in the meantime, waiting for approval from the VA. It seemed they had to give their blessing for him to spend his own money as well. Many VA facilities have cut back on the nursing staff to the point where it is impossible and implausible to think there are enough able bodies to get the job done, even when some are truly dedicated! Now that America is at war, this is a good time to bring attention to the desperate need for decent and adequate care for our vets. How many of you are living with AGENT ORANGE, the disease that didn't exist? How many Gulf War vets are seeing birth defects on their children, as well as living with the disease itself??Besides the post traumatic stress syndrome, the nightmares, and physical issues, our VETS must deal daily with the reality of knowing their battle can never be over, unless they become independently wealthy. These men and women have already fought for us, now it's time to get together and fight for them.It is an election year for some, so write to our call your representatives on this! Hold them accountable. For every letter or call, statistics show there are nine other people who felt the same, but didn't make or take the time to address the issue.OUR VETERANS DESERVE TOP NOTCH HEALTHCARE NOW!zeus_daughter2Thank you Payton.
